HID on the Desktop Solution for Secure PC Logon Receives 5 Star Rating by SC Magazine

IRVINE, Calif., February 14, 2011 HID Global, trusted leader in solutions for the delivery of secure identity, today announced that its HID on the Desktop™ solution for information access systems has earned five out of five stars in SC Magazine’s January 2011 Multifactor Authentication Group Test. HID on the Desktop includes Genuine HID™ credentials, OMNIKEY® readers and naviGO™ 1.0 SP3 management software, offering organizations a secure and convenient two-factor PC logon solution for end users. HID Global earned a perfect score across SC Magazine’s performance, documentation and support categories.

HID on the Desktop provides organizations a convenient and secure solution for end-users to access both buildings and the computer network while also optimizing the investment in an organization’s existing physical access control system. According to SC Magazine, HID on the Desktop offers “a strong option for an enterprise-class deployment where combining access control and multifactor authentication can deliver cost benefits and simplify the amount of devices users must maintain.”

HID cards are already the standard for physical access control at Fortune 1000 corporations worldwide, and SC Magazine elaborated that “an added benefit of working with the HID solution is that users with individual contactless HID iCLASS® cards or HID Prox cards already in use for the door access system can now use these cards for both physical access and to logon to their respective PCs, according to their privileges stored in naviGO.”

The HID on the Desktop award-winning solution has been previously recognized as Security Product of the Year, Business Continuity category, by Security Products magazine, and has received the Outstanding Smart Card Achievement Award, Technology category by the Smart Card Alliance. HID Global will be demonstrating HID on the Desktop along with its full line of readers and credentials at RSA Conference 2011, February 14-18, in booth #823 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, California.

HID on the Desktop Overview
HID on the Desktop allows organizations to leverage existing physical access cards to deploy security for computer networks using smart card technology, PKI and digital certificate standards. As a three-component solution – Genuine HID contact and contactless smart cards, OMNIKEY readers and naviGO credential management software – HID on the Desktop provides corporate enterprises and government agencies with the flexibility to deploy the most “risk-appropriate” authentication solution for secure PC logon based on their unique security requirements. The HID Global portfolio is extended through the acquisition of ActivIdentity, which brings a broad set of authentication products. These products enable organizations to securely issue and manage smart cards, tokens, and other types of credentials for secure network login, document signing, and data encryption.
